The Fox and the Grapes

Main Page

Long long ago, in the age before television, a fox passed passed by a farmers orchard. Hanging over the wall of the orchard he saw a large bunch of grapes. The fox had not eaten in some time and was very hungry. Seeing these grapes he jumped up but they were out of reach. He went back a little bit and ran, jumped as high as he could but he still couldn’t reach the grapes. He tried scrambling up the wall, he tried throwing a stick at them, but he couldn’t reach the grapes to get them down. Finally the fox walked away from the grapes and said “I’m certain they’re sour anyways”. This is where the term “sour grapes” comes from.
