The Prison Break - OOC

When the game was being planned the only character thought out beforehand was Dave. Although there are some differences, Dave is an exaggerated version of Dave the Barbarian from the Temple of Eternity campaign and played by the same player. The DM, knowing that Dave was going to be in the campaign but not knowing what kinds of characters the other players were going to play, had trouble balancing the prison break. Because no regular cell could hold Dave he intentionally started him separately. However there was no guarantee any other random character would have the skills or abilities to break out on their own so he added the character of "Jack the Unlucky" to help the party get out of the cells. Jack only had 3 HP and was meant to die quickly. All the characters were vetted by the DM, especially the ones with the custom classes, however this was done after the campaign had been mostly planned out by the DM.

Like Jack, Zergiot was meant to be a disposable character to give Conan something to do besides make strength rolls for Dave to break the chains while the rest of the party broke out of prison. This is why he's such a ridiculous concept of a wizard that wears armor and fights with a sword. Unlike Jack, Zergiot survived however.

The DM said there were two major surprises that happened, the first was that the lookout spotted us. The lookout was scanning the horizon with a spyglass and it was only the fact he got a natural 20 that he managed to spot us. He admitted that he was certain the party was going to wipe at this point as while he put a finite number of guards in the fort there were more then enough to swarm us and they had all been alerted with the palantir. The 2nd surprise was that we didn't destroy the water control panels. They were meant to be picklocked but the party gave up to early on it (Moriarty was apparently unlucky with his lockpick rolls). While he did plan for the party attempting to bash the locks, he planned that they were very sensitive and only hitting the DC exactly would work. If the strength check roll was under the DC then of course it wouldn't break but if the roll was even one point over it would permanently damage the mechanism making it worthless. He honestly expected us to have Dave try to smash it and destroy it.
