Fall of The Lurching Tower

Dave, Zergiot, and Moriarty fell a long ways and the pipe slowly straightening out resulting in a long safe slide at the end. Karabela also slowly fell down his pipe which also slowly straightening out though his ended at a closed door sealing the water in. Karabela patiently stood in front of the door knowing it would would eventually open, even if it took years he could wait, and rested. Dave, Zergiot, and Moriarty decided they were tired and also went to sleep. They woke up an unknown time later fully rested. Zergiot still had no spells since he didn't have a spellbook yet nor a component pouch. Feeling the walls, Dave, Zergiot, and Moriarty worked their way down the pipe until they reached chamber. Around this time the door holding back the water in the pipe Karabela was in opened and flushed him down. Karabela didn't fight the water figuring the easiest way to escape was to be flushed through these pipes until he reached an exit. He felt himself flow through a chamber, into another pipe, out that pipe and through another chamber, then he got wedged into another pipe. Karabela waited a bit to see if the water would eventually push him down the pipe further but quickly realized this pipe was smaller then the others and he couldn't fit. He struggled free enough for the remainder of the water to flow past him then he wormed his way out of the pipe.

Dave, Zergiot and Moriarty, explored the chamber they were in which had very faint light coming from a grate above them. They could see a ladder climbing up to the grate and another pipe opposite of the one they came out of that Zergiot and Moriarty could fit through but Dave couldn't. Around this time Zergiot heard something from the Palantir he was carrying. He heard a notice going out warning that "the one" might still be alive and escaped into the sewers. Not wanting to continue into the dark pipe without light and knowing Dave couldn't follow anyways they decided to go up the ladder to the grate. The group sent Dave up first in case there were guards.

Dave didn't really need the ladder and just reached up to the grate and pulled it. The grate wouldn't open and Dave was too stupid to realize if he just pushed it would have opened right up. Dave roared and used all his strength to try and pull the grate open. They started hearing "disturbance in the command center, probably 'the one', all available guards report there immediately" from the Palantir. Dave continued to struggle and the stone around the great started to break. Without another renewed effort Dave pulled as hard as he could and the stone around the grate broke and the entire grate crashed down around him. Zergiot and Moriarty had been as far from the grate as they could get and weren't hurt by the falling stone.

Dave climbed up the ladder and poked his head through the hole where the grate used to be. Dave was too big to fit through the hole and only his head fit through it. He was in some sort of storeroom with only one obvious doorway out. There were a couple guards in there looking at him very nervously. Seeing that he was apparently stuck they became a little more confident and drew their swords. Dave bellowed at them intimidatingly and one of the guards mumbled something about letting the commander know that 'the one' has been located and ran off. The other guard swung with his sword and hit Dave in the head with it.

Dave got mad and forced his way through the hold. The already damaged stone floor couldn't handle the strain and simply collapsed. Moriarty and Zergiot managed to dodge the falling debris but the guard was killed by the fall. Dave also lost his balance and fell down. Dave noticed all the foodstuff that had been apparently in the storeroom that fell down into the sewer and began stuffing his face.

Karabela went up the ladder nearest to him and pushing on the grate it moved up easily. He found himself in a storeroom of some sort and didn't see any guards. He climbed out, did a quick search of the storeroom but didn't find anything interesting. He then went to the only door out of the storeroom and listened. He heard some soft noises from the other side of the door but couldn't hear any talking. He opened the door as quietly as he could and saw beyond the door was a barracks. Through the windows he could see it was night and from the moonlight he was able to discern that there were sleeping soldiers in here but not all the beds were full.

Karabela used his ability to Detect Evil to identify the nearest evil sleeping soldier. He did so, crept up to the soldier and silently killed him with a chokehold. He began making his way through the soldiers this way, targetting the ones he detected as being evil however he didn't kill too many before one woke up and screamed before Karabela was able to kill him. This alerted all the remaining guards who woke up and began to attack. Seeing the need for subterfuge as over Karabela started using his sword on all the guards who were trying to swarm him. They were unarmed and unarmored and so weren't much of a threat to him. After a bit most of the guards began to run out though some remained trying to grapple him.

Fearing they were going for reinforcement, Karabela barrled his way through the guards surrounding him to the door. He saw that every guard running out of the barracks was heading to a specific building that appeared to be an armory. Karabela sprinted as fast as he could and just barely managed to beat the other guards there. The door was open and on reaching the door Karabela confirmed this was an armory. He noticed two guards in the armory but they were only armed with daggers and bows. Karabela positioned himself so that he was blocking the door so the unarmed guards couldn't get inside to arm themselves and ignored their pathetic attempts to hit him with their fists while he fought the armed guards inside.

Dave climbed back up the ladder that was now just sitting in the middle of space, he jumped and landed on a small bit of remaining stone floor left right in front of it. He bashed down the door and went into the next room. In the next room was a large group of guards in a defensive position with their shields all together. Dave roared again and more then a few of them cowered. Some of them though attacked at him. Most missed but a few hit him a little bit. Moriary and Zergiot climbed the ladder but there was no place for them to go since Dave blocked the doorway to jump to and the rest of the floor was gone. Dave didn't have much room for using his chains so he picked up one of the guardsand began swinging his body as a weapon. He killed most of the guards and the few left lost courage and ran away. Dave moved out of the way of the door and Zergiot and Moriarty jumped through the doorway as they saw the last few guards escape through a door. In addition to the first door the guards escaped through, and the door to the destroyed storeroom the party came up there was a 3rd doorway. Zergiot went to the 3rd doorway to check it out. Inside was yet another storeroom this one apparently full of maps, papers, and similar supplies, Dave and Moriarty followed him.

Moriarty took some time to study the maps. From them he was able to learn they were in a military complex called The Lurching Tower located in northeast Breland. He also found a map of the complex itself which he took the time to memorize. Dave, Zergiot, and Moriarty then heard the guards say "The commanders here" and the door the guards escaped through opened to show a large man in a very imposing set of armor armed with a mace. The commander came towards them. Zergiot had aquired a tower shield by point somewhere and began fighting the commander. The commander and Zergiot were both so heavily armored neither was able to do any real damage to the other. Meanwhile Moriarty analyzed the architecture of the building they were in and determined one of the walls had to be an exterior wall to outside. He also identified a weak point but it was too high for Dave to hit and Moriarty was too weak to use it.

Zergiot managed to close the door so that they were safe from the guards for the time being but trapped in the room. Seeing no other way out Moriarty convinced Dave to just bash his way out of the wall. It took some time but eventually cracks appeared in the wall, then wall started to bow out a little bit and finally Dave smashed his way through to the outside. Moriarty, having gone through some of the reports in the room, had determined his items were most likely in the prison, which was a different building then the tower the party had originally been held in. He started sneaking around towards that building.

Karabela had killed the two armed guards inside the armory and now was guarding the doorway preventing any of the guards from going inside to arm themselves. It was apparently by this point that except for a few left to watch the walls all of the armed guards were with the commander trying to take down Dave, while all those that weren't armed were blocked by Karabela. Dave happened to see the mass of unarmed guards around Karabela and rushed towards "the fun".

At this time, a group of unknown people charged through the front gates. They were yelling "For the revolution!" and "Down with the King!". They were armed but not very well compared to the guards. Many of them were carrying a single scroll. When used a very weak magic missile flew out and hit a guard. Although the revolutionaries didn't appear to be spellcasters a surprising number of them managed to successfully activate their scrolls. Some of the revolutionaries ran towards the largest group of guards they could see, where the commander was, while therest ran towards the building Moriarty had identified as the prison where his gear was.

Dave reached Karabela, grabbed another guard, and again started using his body to attack the other guards. From his position Karabela noticed the commander and his guards fighting the revolutionaries. He pointed out to Dave that there was 'more fun over there'. Dave saw the commander, thought fighting the commander would be a great challenge and rushed over there while Karabela continued to guard the armory and kill the few guards who foolishly tried sneak past him and get at their weapons.

Dave, the Commander, the guards, and the revolutionaries all fought in a giant melee together. Surprisingly the revolutionaries kept managing to hit their targeets while the guards kept missing. Eventually the commander and all the guards went down. Zergiot and Karabela kept Dave from attacking the revolutionaries who looked at each other with surprised look and said "Wait? We won? This was just supposed to be a distraction while fellow militiamen rescued our friends from the prison!"

Exploring the rest of the camp the party soon determined that the only guards remaining alive were a large number of wounded being tended to in the infirmary. They had all been badly hurt falling off the tower when the party flooded it. Deciding they were too dangerous to keep prisoner and a drain of resources Karabela executed them. The entire party regained all their equipment that they had prior to being captured. The revolutionaries, who called themselves The Militia, sent messengers to their leaders about what had happened but stayed to occupy the camp. Because of obvious power they deferred to the party as leaders of The Lurching Tower. In the camp was found a chapel to the Sovereign Host which Karabela deemed blasphemous. Inside was found a secret chamber with signs and symbols recognized as belonging to a cult of The Dragon Below. The chapel was looted of what few valuables could be found then torched by Karabela. Karabela declared himself leader of the camp and that The Lurching Tower was the start of a new holy empire in the name of the one true god.
