Fall of The Lurching Tower - OOC

At the end of this session the DM admitted we had completely gone completely off the rails so far that he was going to need to rethink the entire campaign scenario. He told us the original plan was for us to sneak out of the camp somehow, the cisterns being one option but not a likely one, and definitely didn't expect us to use it offensively. After escaping from the camp we would have ended up being chased by the army as we made our escape cross country away from The Lurching Tower. Eventually we would run into the militia who would have circumstantial evidence the king was in league with an evil cult, but there would also be circumstantial evidence the militia was being controlled by an evil cult as well. The party would eventually need to choose between the militia and the army they had escaped from (with no obvious correct answer) as a small civil war broke out between the two.

The DM said he had put a finite number of guards in The Lurching Tower so the possibility of us killing of them existed but he didn't think it would ever happen. He said that when the cistern was broken a full third of the soldiers were killed outright and about another third were wounded badly enough to end up in the infirmary and out of action. He said there actually was still enough guards we probably would have been overwhelmed if it weren't for the fact Karabela kept most of them from arming themselves in the armory. The DM joked that when word got out of what happened that the poor nameless architect who designed the armory of The Lurching Tower to have only one way in or out was horribly tortured and executed for creating a flaw so bad it resulted in the death of an entire army and the subsequent loss of a quarter of the nation.

He also told us that the militia was preplanned to attack at midnight regardless of what the players did as another possible escape option and plot hook and that most of the militia were supposed to be slaughtered by the guards while the rest went to free the friends from prison. However when they attacked they were exceptionally lucky with their attack and use magic device rolls while the guards were exceptionally unlucky with their rolls that they managed to take out way more guards then he had planned. All these things together resulted in the party capturing the entire Lurching Tower instead of escaping it.

He told us he would have to rethink the next session because we were supposed to be on the run from the army or hired by them and neither is possible at this point. The party very much appreciated the DM's willingness to modify the campaign rather then railroading us with infinite guards or something silly like that and we all agreed this turn of events was better then the original plan. The DM let us know he would be planning out options for us to work together to try and build up our empire.
